PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT
Pipeline construction in a wide range of construction work. As it includes a large area the work management is very important. To construct a pipeline we can divide the whole work in several parts which are route selection survey work, pipeline survey work, trial pit work, pipe laying work, after construction work.
Route Selection Survey Work:
This is the primary work for pipeline construction. First we have to perform a preliminary survey through which area we need to construct the pipeline i.e. the area in which there are no water supply connection or the area which are only depended on under ground water.
Pipeline Survey Work:
After selecting the route we need to make the alignment for pipeline construction By this survey work we will be able to know that how much land we need to excavate. For this work we can use survey instruments such as Total station, Leveling instrument etc.
Trial Pit Work:
The main purpose of this work is to check existing utilities, culvert, bridge. For this work we have to excavate a certain segment of road or offroad. Through this work we will be able to know that the alignment, elevation of existing utilities, culvert, bridge. On the basis of this report we can decide where we under crossing or over crossing of pipeline.
Pipe Laying Work:
For this work we need to excavate the land/road. The common equipments used for this work are excavator, crane, dump truck. Before laying the pipe we need to prepare the bed properly by sand/concrete either r.c.c. or c.c.
After Construction Work:
After pipe laying we have to back fill the area by proper compaction. In case of highway the covering over the pipe from road surface should be maintained as per requirement. We must have to clean the working area when construction work will be finished.
Before doing all this work one thing we have to keep in our mind is "SAFETY FIRST".
